3 tips to help you prepare for consulting aptitude tests

Most top consulting firms use some type of aptitude test early in their recruiting process to filter out candidates. 

The specific details of test will vary by firm, but they share some common features. In general, they will all:
  • Test potential, not knowledge: Consulting firms, particularly when recruiting at junior (i.e., business analyst or associate) level, are focused solely on finding the cleverest and most able people they can. Whether or not you know anything doesn't really matter- the whole consulting industry is predicated on the assumption that smart people can solve any problem. As a result, the aptitude tests you take won't require any specific knowledge other than generic language and numerical skills
