Doom Weapons: Context
Our client is Doom Weapons, a large manufacturer of military weaponry based in the UK. Doom Weapons has been a market leader in 'conventional' firearms for many years.
For your information, conventional firearms are pistols and rifles that fire metal bullets.
Over the last few years, Doom Weapons has noticed its customers growing increasingly interested in plasma weaponry. Plasma weapons require different knowledge and processes to develop and manufacture compared to conventional weapons and Doom Weapons has no experience or expertise in them.
The CEO of Doom Weapons wants to expand into producing plasma weapons. He believes that buying Future Industries, a small private company specializing in plasma weaponry could 'jumpstart' this expansion. Future Industries was founded 5 years ago, does not yet have any products on the market and has no current revenues. It is based in Shanghai, China and has 20 employees. The CEO has hired us to assess whether buying Future Industries would be a good move.
